Don't help.
Stolen from Kerri, by way of Common Cause:
- It has been widely reported that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded Carnival Cruise Lines a $236 million deal to provide temporary housing on the Mississippi River and off the Gulf Coast. The cost per person is $1,275 a week, nearly twice the typical cost of a weeklong cruise for a normal passenger.
- Another highly criticized contract has been the costs of Operation Blue Roof. The government has hired several contractors to nail down large blue tarpaulins on top of wind-damaged roofs. The government is paying contractors an average of $2,480 for less than two hours of work to cover each damaged roof - even though it is also giving them free supplies of blue sheeting. Local contractors have told the press that they would charge $300 to tarp a 2,000-square-foot roof - a fraction of what the government is currently paying.
